Monday Madness About Cooking

Thanks to some help on the blogger forum, I am able to get back into my blog! Here is our Monday Madness post for this week.

I feel honored to have my questions used this week. Thanks Otto!

Thanks to all of you who suggested questions. If I haven't been to your site yet to grab them, I will be there soon! This week's questions come from karen. Great questions, Karen! =)

1. What is your favorite main course to prepare?

This is actually a hard one for me to choose. I like making filet mignon with a bleu cheese topping. For everyday cooking I like baked breaded pork chops or even mostaccoli with meat sauce.

2. What is your favorite side dish to prepare?

Roasted asparagus. I just trim the asparagus and throw it in a zip top bag, drizzle some olive oil over it to coat, add some sea salt and pepper and shake it up. I roast it on a sheet pan at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes and it is delicious. It also works great on a foil pan on the grill.

3. Do you like to bake? If so, what is your favorite?

I like to bake when I have enough time. One of our favorite desserts is actually a pretty easy one, Country Apple Dessert. The recipe is at http://www.findmorefacts.com/html/country_apple_dessert.html. It’s really good and goes great with ice cream.

4. What one dish would you like to learn to cook?

I would like to learn to make really good crab cakes with a remoulade sauce. Or maybe a great beef Wellington. Then again, cannelloni would be fun…

5. What is your worst cooking disaster?

One of the worst was this past Christmas Eve. It was the day before Christmas Eve and my oven decided to quit working. I had to completely change my menu at the last minute. I was preparing a standing rib roast with a potato casserole and roasted root vegetables. Needless to stay, those were all supposed to be cooked in the oven! I wound up cooking the prime rib on the grill in 20 degree weather. It turned out okay, but a bit overdone despite close monitoring. I don’t think my meat thermometer was reading correctly in the cold. I cooked the potato casserole in my toaster oven and changed the vegetables to sautéed Brussels sprouts with mustard seeds. They were okay, but not my favorite although everyone else seemed to like them. I switched from fresh baked rolls to bakery rolls and bought the dessert instead of baking it. It was a bit stressful at the last minute but I guess we managed!

Getting Organized on Monday!

Welcome Monday Madness Participants to our new "Organizing Blog." Feel free to leave comments, tips, and join in discussions. Check out our first post below. Any input is always appreciated!

1. Do you make New Year's resolutions? If so, what is your most important one?
I don't make New Year's resolutions but I do plan on improving my business www.findmorefacts.com (shameless plug, sorry) this year and cleaning out every closet in my house!

2. Easter is coming. Many Christians give up something for Lent. Do you give something up for any reason (or season)? What is it this year?
I'm not very good about this. Sometimes I will give up sweets for Lent.

3. Do you watch the Super Bowl? If so, do you watch it with a group? If not, what do you do while the game is on? Anything special?
I will be watching this year since I am from Chicago! :-D GO BEARS!!! I'm not sure who we will be with but I know there will be a lot of good snacking involved.

4. Would you miss Monday Madness if it stopped permanently?
Most definitely! I look forward to it every week.

Find More Facts About Organizing

Welcome to the Find More Facts About Organizing Blog. Here we will share information from Karen's Clutter Corner to help you get organized in your personal and business lives. We encourage our readers to leave comments and share your organiztional tips too. Together, we will organize the world - one messy closet at a time! ;-)

Have you ever felt like everything around you is in total disarray and you don't know where to begin to get organized? Of course, I have never had that problem (LOL) but I have come up with a way to de-stress while I declutter. You need to choose one spot in one room to begin. It sounds pretty obvious, but in reality that is why it is often so difficult to begin organizing. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Choose one drawer or one cabinet or one shelf in a closet.
  2. Pull everything out.
  3. Clean the surfaces.
  4. Throw away anything old, damaged, out of date, or things you have not used in the last six months.
  5. If you have a bunch of small items, group them by category, put them in a clear plastic container and label them.
  6. Put everything you are keeping back into the drawer/cabinet/closet and close the door!
  7. Throw out the trash.
  8. Walk away and give yourself a treat! You have just started on your way to being organized.
  9. Repeat this process every couple of days and before you know it your closets and cabinets will be clean!

If you need some organizational items such as plastic containers, closet organizers, drawer organizers, etc. go back to the organization page on our website, Find More Facts and you'll find some terrific sources of organizing tools. You'll also find more tips and articles.

Don't forget to leave us some of your great tips. We look forward to hearing from you!
